Dr. Bhattacharya studies the constraints that vulnerable populations face in making decisions that affect their health status, and in particular the effects of government policies designed to benefit these populations. He is currently involved in research examining the redistributive consequences of Medicare and its financing, and a project investigating increases in the rate of severely limiting disability among recent cohorts of young adults.
